Living Oceans and CAAR negotiated an interim agreement with Marine Harvest Canada to protect wild salmon
Living Oceans Society and our partners in the Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform (CAAR) negotiated an agreement with Marine Harvest Canada (MHC) to secure some interim protection for wild salmon.
The CAMP (Coordinated Area Management Plan) clears alternating wild salmon migration routes of farmed salmon in B.C.’s Broughton Archipelago during the spring outmigration period. Empty farms don’t breed the sea lice which can kill juvenile wild salmon. This agreement was the first of its kind and led to a more broad data sharing and monitoring program for the region known as the Broughton Area Monitoring Plan or BAMP.
