Take Action on Ocean Pollution

January 15, 2025

ocean pollution

Over 80 percent of the global fleet has turned air pollution into ocean pollution by installing 'scrubbers' on their exhaust systems. Scrubber washwater is highly acid and toxic and literally millions of tons of it are being discharged into BC waters each year.

Scrubber washwater has been shown to have lethal and sub-lethal effects on a wide variety of marine biota, beginning with the smallest of life forms: zooplankton that form the base of the ocean’s food web and microalgae, responsible for production of half of earth’s oxygen.

Discharges are presently allowed within the critical habitat of Resident Killer Whales, including the endangered Southern and threatened Northern populations.

Tell Transport Canada you think restrictions should be implemented on toxic discharge from vessels in Canadian waters!

This is your chance to weigh in and let Transport Canada know that you want them to STOP OCEAN POLLUTION.
