FrançaisFirst Nations sign call-to-action to end net-pen fish farms
Hereditary Chiefs and Leaders from more than two dozen coastal First Nations have signed a salmon declaration with a focus on closing some fish farms.
It’s not a legal document but an oath that includes working towards an immediate end to open-net pen fish farms in the Pacific Ocean and to ensure that salmon populations thrive for future generations.
“We know from experience that if we take care of salmon, they take care of us, and when they are in abundance all life thrives,” read Jolleen Dick, the emcee, as she introduced the signing.
