Project Outreach Specialist

Off the table Canada is a collaboration with the UK-based charity, WildFish, which created this global campaign, and our Canadian partners, Living Oceans and the Atlantic Salmon Federation. 

We are looking for a Project Outreach Specialist for Off the Table Canada. The successful candidate will conduct email, telephone and in-person outreach to restaurants, chefs and fishmongers to sign them up and obtain the requisite assets for the website. They will assist with social media, website updates and the preparation of launch and media materials. They will participate in identifying and targeting one major chain restaurant, using our letter-writing tools to focus public engagement on that chain, to persuade it to stop selling farmed salmon. In their role, they will be actively promoting Off the Table Canada, fielding inquiries and interacting with the target audience.  

Position location: hybrid (West Vancouver office / remote home office) 

Employment type: part-time contract (up to 10 hours per week) commencing October 1, 2024 for 5-6 weeks. 

Start date: October 1, 2024 

Wages: $25 per hour

Eligibility: 

PREFERENCE GIVEN TO INDIVIDUALS ENROLLED AS A PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT IN AN A RELATED UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE, DIPLOMA, OR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN CANADA. 

MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR EMPLOYMENT IN CANADA – Applicants from outside Canada please indicate your eligibility options in your cover letter (i.e. NAFTA work visa, skilled worker visa, etc.).

Roles and Responsibilities: 
  • Outreach to target audience(s) 
  • Track outreach efforts 
  • Collect requisite completed forms from sign-ons 
  • Update Off the Table Canada website 
  • Identify and target large chain restaurant and create letter writing campaign to apply pressure to sign-on 
  • Post to social media and tag partners when appropriate 
  • Provide information to share on social media or other channels for Living Oceans / Atlantic Salmon Federation 
Qualifications: 
  • Studying business, public relations, marketing, communications, research, or related fields 
  • Experience with creation and scheduling of social media content 
  • Experience with creation of outreach material and use of advocacy tools 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (warm, friendly and engaging phone voice and writing tone) 
  • Ability to navigate and interact with spreadsheets, databases and other information management systems
