Project Manager
Organization: Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture ReformPosition: Full time, one year contract
Location: Metro Vancouver The Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform (CAAR) is seeking a full-time Project Manger to work with our dynamic team in overseeing several collaborative research projects being undertaken with a major salmon farm company. A background in science would be advantageous and an interest in environmental protection and general knowledge of salmon conservation issues would be an asset. Excellent project management and communication skills are required. The ability to work from your home office in the lower mainland will also be considered an asset.
Duties include:
- Ensuring progress on all collaborative projects on CAAR’s behalf.
- Developing timelines, workplans, tracking progress and managing budgets
- Liaising with CAAR, government scientists and company representatives on joint management of all project components.

- Self motivated, efficient, requiring minimal supervision

Living Oceans Society (LOS) is Canada’s largest marine conservation organization. We are looking for a committed Campaign Manager to play a catalytic role in ensuring that the B.C. marine environment is protected from the harmful impacts of tankers, oil and gas development and climate change.
Role and Responsibilities
The Energy and Climate Change Campaign Manager is responsible for initiating, developing and implementing annual campaign strategies and work plans, including:
- Collaborating with the Executive Director and relevant partners to develop strategic goals and objectives including (but not limited to) government and industry relations, science, stakeholder outreach, grassroots organizing, public education and communications.
- Developing and implementing campaign activities to meet campaign strategic goals and achieve results.
- Integrating Living Oceans Society’s strategic goals and objectives with other organizations and coalitions working on energy and climate change in British Columbia and across Canada.
- Managing the development of all communications materials for the Energy and Climate Change campaign including: government briefs, printed publications, images, video, social media and other on-line materials in consultation with LOS communications staff.
- Identifying and effectively applying relevant scientific data and analysis to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the campaign.
- Representing LOS in discussions concerning energy and climate change with federal, provincial and First Nations governments, stakeholders, scientists and coastal communities.
- Collaborating with other LOS staff to develop and report on funding proposals.
- Preparing and presenting reports to the LOS Board of Directors, staff, funders or community supporters as requested.
- Monitoring the campaign budget to ensure that activities are completed on time and on budget.
- Providing leadership, supervision and support for energy campaign contractors, interns, volunteers and staff.
Qualifications
Skills and attributes:- Well-developed strategic and analytic abilities.
- Able to set clear objectives, identify and follow priorities, analyze and synthesize complex and disparate data, and distill critical information from diverse and detailed sources.
- Demonstrated campaign management skills and experience.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously to successful completion.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to translate scientific and technical concepts and ideas in a compelling fashion across disciplines, to technical, legal and policy experts as well as to more general audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and respectfully work with partner organizations, the scientific community, government and industry decision makers.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for working with Web 2.0 and new media.
- Ability to work independently and conduct work by phone and other remote media.
- Post secondary education in marine biology, resource management, conservation biology, environmental studies, geography, public policy, political science, or related fields. A master’s degree considered an asset.
- At least two years of successful campaign or project management experience.
- Solid understanding of marine ecosystem science and/or policy and its application to resource conservation and management.
- Familiarity with relevant current and emerging energy and climate change issues at national and international levels.
- Interest or experience in developing and using on-line formats and tools to develop, manage, and communicate results of scientific research.
- Interest in applying Web 2.0, on-line and new media applications to conservation campaign communications.
- Commitment to the Living Oceans Society marine conservation goals and approach.
- Willingness to travel.
- Good team player, flexible work style, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Fearlessness, creativity, initiative and perseverance will be considered assets.
